How can I reduce the cost UK taxi insurance?

If you are just getting started as a private or public hire taxi driver, choose a vehicle that is practical and reliable, but is also in one of the lower insurance groupings. After that, you could consider taking action on some of the ideas we have listed below.

Install a taxi dash cam (dual advantage of speeding up claims processing and safeguards you from fraudulent claims)
If your cab does not have an immobilizer fitted, get one installed. Make sure it is professionally installed and is compliant with the insurance industry
One of the best ways to really save money is to shop around for quotes and get different quotes, so you can compare them, this may also give you some leverage at policy renewal time. Different companies offer different policy rates, discounts and coverage, so it’s better to get multiple quotes.
If possible, provide secure off-road parking when not working.
Paying for your insurance as a one-off annual payment will in most cases avoid any instalment fees levied by the provider. For some drivers, the extra fees are acceptable for the added ease of budgeting.
Build up a good history of not making insurance claims
