Admiral Breakdown Cover Review
Admiral breakdown cover is an add-on you can have if you already have admiral vehicle insurance. The assistance will be provided by Automobile Association Developments Limited. The vehicle to be covered must be registered in the UK.
What types of Admiral breakdown cover are available?
There are 3 different levels of cover for protection, with 2 of them covering the UK and one for cover when you are in Europe.
Admiral | RoadsideAssistanceCover | NationalCover | EuropeanCover |
---|---|---|---|
Roadside Assistance Cover | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
Recovery limited 10 miles from breakdown | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ |
Recovery to any UK destination | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
Home breakdown call outs | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
Unlimited European roadside recoveries | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ |
All of them include the Basic Roadside Assistance Cover that consists of the following:
- A mechanic will be sent to your breakdown location that is at a minimum 1/4th mile from your home residence and if possible get you back on the road again.
- If repairs can’t be made by the roadside, the vehicle will be towed to the nearest garage within 10 miles of the breakdown.
- You and your passengers will be taken to the garage if the vehicle has to be towed.
- If you are towing a trailer or caravan with a standard hitch, it will also be recovered if it weighs less than 3.5 tonnes.
- A phone call to your destination will be made to inform them of the delay.
- If repairs can’t be made in one day then a hire car will be provided for up to 3 days.
- If necessary, accommodation will be provided with a maximum cost of £600.
There is also National Cover for more protection. This provides assistance at your home residence. It also makes it possible for the disabled vehicle that can’t be repaired to be towed to the destination of the owner’s choice within the UK.
European Cover is another optional add-on to the Admiral breakdown cover policy. This includes all the above plus, if repairs can’t be made on the side of the road or at a local garage, your vehicle can be towed back to the UK.
What is not covered with an Admiral breakdown cover policy?
Parts and labour provided by the roadside mechanic are free, but not at the repair garage. Those costs are your responsibilities. The cost of meals during the breakdown is not covered.
Costs associated with the hire car such as fuel are not covered.
The costs of providing a spare tire for repairs if your replacement tire is not available or is unusable is your responsibility.
What Admiral breakdown cover provides is standard for the industry. Not mentioned above, but also provided, is towing assistance when your vehicle is involved in an accident and can’t be driven. They will also bring you fuel if you run out on the road.
