Compare Cover for 2 to 20 Vehicles on One Policy

One policy, one renewal date, one payment. Mini fleet insurance is designed for small businesses with 2 to 20 vehicles and can cover a mix of cars, vans, taxis or other commercial vehicles. Why Compare Mini Fleet Insurance?

One policy, one renewal date, one payment. Grouping 2 to 20 vehicles under a single mini fleet policy usually means less admin, a single point of contact for claims, and often a lower total premium than insuring each vehicle separately. It is not always cheaper, though, which is exactly why comparing matters: quotes vary widely between specialist fleet brokers, and the single-policy route should always be tested against a fleet quote before you renew. For benchmark figures by vehicle type, see our guide on how much fleet insurance costs in the UK.

Guide To Small Fleet Insurance

Mini or small fleet insurance is the ideal policy for a new business venture or a small delivery operation. Fleets typically start at 2 vehicles and can be a mix of work vans and cars. Grouping vehicles under one policy should save you money, but this is not always the case, so it is worth comparing the traditional single-policy route against a mini fleet quote before deciding.

Mini fleet insurance is a form of fleet insurance aimed at smaller fleets of 2, 3 or more vehicles, normally under 5. Above that number, you could start to consider any driver fleet insurance, which covers any authorised member of your team rather than named individuals. You may also wish to consider family fleet insurance if all the cars are registered at the same address.

How many vehicles do you need?

You only need a minimum of 2 vehicles to qualify for small fleet insurance. Additional vehicles can be added later as your business grows.

Your loyalty should lie with the best price that meets your business’s cover needs, not with the same provider out of habit.

Can the Policy Include a Mix of Vehicle Types?

A mini fleet policy is flexible, letting you combine different vehicle categories under one schedule. With some insurers you can also choose different levels of cover per vehicle — for example, third party fire and theft on one and fully comprehensive on another. Any of the categories below can be added to a mini fleet policy.

Cars & Pickups

Company cars, pool cars and pickups on one schedule.

Vans, Trucks & Tippers

From small panel vans to 7.5t trucks and tippers.

Taxis

Public and private hire vehicles alongside your other fleet.

HGVs

Heavy goods vehicles can join a mixed small fleet.

Bikes

Motorcycles and scooters for delivery or courier work.

Minibuses

Passenger minibuses for staff or private hire use.

Starting a Rental Car Business?

If you are entering the van or car rental business, you will need specialist self drive hire insurance rather than a standard mini fleet policy. Traditionally this meant an annual policy covering the whole rental fleet, but the market has changed: pay-as-you-go self drive hire cover is now available, activating insurance only when a vehicle is actually out on hire — so you are not paying to insure cars sitting in the rental car park.

Eamonn’s Take

You can tailor your mini fleet policy to include only the level of cover you actually need, then enhance it with extras such as windscreen repair or a replacement vehicle service. Do not pay for blanket comprehensive cover across the fleet if some vehicles only justify third party fire and theft.
