Guide to Rooster Insurance UK
Rooster car insurance is a tech initiative aimed at reinventing how risk is priced, measured and distributed amongst drivers. The company, Rooster, seeks to make car insurance and ownership cheaper, smarter and fairer for safe drivers through their smart insurance app. This approach makes Rooster different to most traditional insurance companies.
What is a Rooster car insurance app?
Rooster makes use of a mobile app with sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), and complex machine learning algorithms to study your driving habits and determine if you’re a safe driver or not. Rooster claims that you could save up to 40% with their car insurance app. Their prices are not based on traditional insurance quote details like age, marital status and crude demographics, but on actual driving habits.
Instead, Rooster utilises data collected from their mobile app on your phone during a 3 week test drive period. This way, they are able to bill you based on how you actually drive. The company claims that it does not insure bad drivers.
- Improve your credits: If you have a poor credit score, you have to review it constantly. Check for irregularities that might be affecting your rates. The faster you pay off your debt, the better your credit will improve. This will allow you to secure credits and make you a more attractive customer to insurers. And they might lower your premiums.
- Compare quotes from different insurers: An insurance provider might specialise in providing individuals with CCJ coverage. Consult them and compare their quotes, as some might be willing to offer you affordable rates.
- Keep your mileage low. For an insurance provider, low mileage means less time on the road, meaning less risk of an accident and a claim. This choice is not for everyone, but if you are on a tight budget, it may be worth considering.
- Pay the car insurance annually. Paying monthly means interest on your monthly instalments, so generally they are more expensive.
- Go for higher voluntary excess. This may seem a bit frustrating but if you are a confident and careful driver then ideally you will be avoiding any collisions and claims on the insurance, so you won’t be paying this higher excess anyway! This option also makes your overall policy cost cheaper.
- Car Insurance Group : Are you driving a car in one of the higher risk groups, changing to a ca that sits in a lower insurance group will result in a cheaper car insurance premium.
- Consult a specialist broker: Specialist brokers have access to several insurers. They might help you find an insurer with coverage that meets your needs.
- Use telematics policies: Telematics policies involve your insurer monitoring your driving behaviour through tracking devices. If you are a safe driver, this might sign you up for some rewards or discounts.
How does Rooster car insurance work?
To receive a personalised quote for your Rooster car insurance, you’ll have to take the following steps. First, you’ll need to download the Rooster app, take a photo of your driving licence and fill in the required details.
After that, you proceed to sign up for a test drive and give the Rooster app permission to operate in the background of your phone. Then, you take the 3 weeks test drive with your phone in your car (Please note that test drives are valid for 18 months).
The Rooster app will then build your driving profile with the data collected to determine how safe a driver you are. Based on your driving behaviour rating, you’ll then receive a personalised quote that is valid for 30 days if you’re a good driver. If your driving profile reflects that you’re a bad driver, you’ll be denied insurance.
You can then decide to customise your fully comprehensive cover and pay for your car insurance policy on the Rooster app. Rooster car insurance doesn’t patronise price insurance websites for customers. However, when you become a part of the Rooster community of safe drivers, you’ll be paid £70 for every safe driver you refer to the platform.
Who is eligible to apply for Rooster insurance?
To be eligible for the Rooster car insurance, you must be above 19 years of age. You must have held a full driving licence for more than 12 months. Also, you must possess a GB driving licence (not NI).
Additionally, your car must not fall under category D, it must not be older than 20 years, and it must not be imported. If you’re a driver under 25 years, your car must not be a high performance car and its value should be less than £70,000
What does Rooster cover offer?
Rooster offers only the highest level of cover— comprehensive policies. Rooster’s insurance covers the cost of replacing or fixing your car in cases of accident or vandalism. They also offer an uninsured driver promise that secures your no-claims discount and refunds your insurance excess when you’re in an accident with a driver who is not insured.
